Great Grounds For
Switching Supermarkets
Safeway's Uncommon Ground vs.
Other Stores' Common Ground
It starts with the ground beef. Safeway has five different
varieties,
for
all kinds of taste. Some stores only have three. The same goes
for
the rest
of Safeway's meat department. We have a larger and
better selection.
More variety and cuts of U.S.D.A.
inspected
beef, tender prok, lean
lamb, high quality
veal and a larger
selection of poultry than any other
store. So think about it.
If
you're shopping somewhere else, there's something
you're probably sacrificing.

Why You Don't Want A Salmon
That Has Made It To The Top.
The best salmon never get ahead. They're caught before they swim
upstream to spawn.
And, if they're salmon destined for Safeway,
they're normally caught by hook and
line and hand-selected so
they're in prime condition. Some stores buy netted fish
or just
take what they can get.
And that usually means an older,
duller and even
bruised fish.
It's just one example of the uncompromising standards you
can depend
on in the Safeway
seafood department.
You can also depend on a
selection of fresh seafood
from around
the world that exceeds the
varieties carried
by most supermarkets. So, if you're
shopping
somewhere
else, there's something you may not be catching.

With Asparagus, It Pays
To Take Short Cuts.
Asparagus is actually a member of the lily family and that's why it
must
be handled
very carefully. The highest quality asparagus is
harvested
early and cut shorter
– while the stalk is at its greenest,
the buds their
tightest, and when it is medium
size in diameter.
Once cut, fresh asparagus will literally fall apart if proper
temperatures
and humidity
levels are not maintained. The buds
will open and the woody
tissue will develop rapidly,
causing a distinct loss of flavor and tenderness.
Because of the delicate nature of asparagus, our standards
are more
stringent than
most supermarkets. They're even
higher than the top government grade. And, since
our
spears are an entirely edible
shorter cut,
you're never short changed.
These scrupulous specifications for asparagus are what
Safeway
shoppers have come
to expect of the Safeway
produce department.
So, if you're shopping somewhere else,
there's something
you may be compromising.
